let's get RUDE and STUPID!
New Orleans-based comedy groups Stupid Time Machine and rude. bring you a tour full of sketch, improv, and disoriented street animals collected in the van while traveling up the east coast.

Hailed by the Wall Street Journal as a must see group, STUPID TIME MACHINE travels the country performing sketch and challenging weaker men to fight. They’ve been featured on the main page of Funny or Die and have recently appeared at SF Sketchfest, the San Francisco Comedy Festival, The Chicago Sketch Comedy Festival, Moontower Comedy and Oddity Festival, and SketchFest Seattle. The groups' members also teach improv and sketch comedy in New Orleans out of the theater they co-founded, The New Movement. They can be found at their websitestupidtimemachine.com or on twitter @STMcomedy.

RUDE is a New Orleans-based multimedia sketch duo comprising Colleen Allerton and Lauren LaBorde. They are known for delivering a high-energy show combining live sketch comedy, videos, improvised stand-up and sometimes, choreographed dance routines. Characterized by an "in-your-face style ... with skewering sketches and video shorts" (Cate Root, Times Picayune | nola.com) and a "unique and beautiful affection [they bring] to the stage every time they are together" (Sophie Lucido Johnson, Hell Yes Fest.com), rude also creates online video like the viral short "My Purse, My Choice," which received over 400,000 views and was featured on MSNBC, The Today Show, CNN, The New York Times and your mother's Facebook page. SILENCE AND SINCERITY in Improvisation (taught by Mike Spara)
There's more said on stage than dialogue. This workshop will focus on using both those unspoken endowments (words, motivations, history, among others) and emotion to bring more wonder and depth to your improv and sketch.

Mike Spara is an actor, comedian and writer. He is a founding member of TNM NOLA, where he is also a faculty member for the improvisation, sketch, and AP Comedy conservatories. He has received training from UCB, Second City, iO, Annoyance, and Under the Gun Theater, among others, including extended study with Kevin Mullaney and Jet Eveleth. He performs comedy around the country, including Chicago SketchFest, SF Sketch Fest, Buku Fest, Hangout Fest, and in venues throughout the Midwest, New Orleans and Austin. He performs sketch and improvisation with a variety of groups in New Orleans, including Stupid Time Machine, where he also produces and performs his silent sketch comedy show Conversations with Body Language.

HEIGHTEN OR DIE(taught by James Hamilton)
This workshop focuses in on the moments after the discovery of the game in a scene and the question of, "What should I do now?" Improvisers will be challenged to fearlessly and unapologetically heighten in a scene by digging in to their first decision. In doing so, scenes go from simple comedic games to incredible adventures and have the performers in the scene surprising even themselves. This workshop pushes improvisers of all levels to let go, trust their instincts and heighten to the sky.

James Hamilton is a comedian and faculty member with the New Movement New Orleans. He has been performing comedy in New Orleans since 2010 and can be seen performing regularly with the sketch group Stupid Time Machine, improv groups the French Navy, Super Computer, and Quiet on the Set, and solo as a storyteller and stand-up comedian. He was a member of TNM NOLA's first graduating class and was the first teacher to come out of the conservatory program.

PHONY ISN'T FUNNY
with MANDY BUTLER
RUDE and STUPID TIME MACHINE The Basement Theatre
SUNDAY, OCT 26, 12-3pm
$25

PHONY ISN'T FUNNY: Worried you have to give up the funny to get the substance? Want to develop compelling relationships onstage, but are afraid things will get “too dramatic” or boring? Do you think that performing captivating and connected longform is out of your reach? Guess what, friends! This workshop is for you! In this three-hour master class centered on putting your attention on your “other,” you will discover that 1) There is never nothing. 2) With all of your attention is on your partner, you don’t have the headspace to be self-conscious. 3) You need only be engaged to be engaging…and my personal favorite: 4) PHONY ISN’T FUNNY! You're about to discover improv’s best kept secret: Being funny is the easiest part!

THANK YOU FOR 10 GREAT YEARS!
The Basement Theatre will celebrate its 10th anniversary on April 1st, 2014!

Since then they have been through many changes, many ups and downs
and it has made The Basement a fantastic home for improv comedy!

THANKS FOR ALL THE KUDOS!

Love this Theater, Great acts and affordable prices for tickets, food and drinks.
This is somewhere everyone will love. Be prepared to laugh till you cant anymore. - MARIA C.

What a fun evening! I loved the fact that the improv is family friendly...meaning that the humor is intelligent and quick, not just crude. We'll be back! - ONLINE REVIEW

Our family had a great time at this event. Very interactive with the audience and great talent. I think this is a must do for every family with kids probably 8 and older. - ONLINE REVIEW

I loved it and the kids really enjoyed the show also. - ONLINE REVIEW

Well, it is literally in the basement of an office building. They've turned it into a cool venue. The four guys doing the improv were very quick on their feet, fielding suggestions from the audience to do the skits. I was most impressed with the Shakespearean type one. Man, how they could rhyme on the spot with Elizabethan prose. If you liked the tv show "Whose Line Is It?" with Drew Carey, Wayne Brady and Ryan Stiles back in the day, you'll enjoy this zany --very affordable-- night out. - ONLINE REVIEW

We had a blast! We actually went to play whirly ball afterwards (which is kind of like lacrosse in bumper cars- very cool!), and yet the kids spent the entire night talking about how much fun we had at the basement. You guys beat whirly ball! - KATIE M. (youth group organizer)

We took our kids, (13 and 10 yrs) to one of the family shows [Fridays 8pm]. They LOVED it! It was interactive as well as entertaining and humorous for adults and kids, alike. It was a unique thing to be able to do with the family, as most improv shows are not
open to kids. It moves pretty quickly, [so] I think it is awesome for Tweens and teens. (ages 10 and up). - JULIE S.
